About Gilpin Montessori Public School

Gilpin Montessori Public School provides Montessori education to children between age 3 and Grade 5 and traditional classroom education for Grades 4 and 5.  Gilpin offers a multi-age learning environment, with a focus on self-directed learning and hands-on interactions. The school provides after-school tutoring and professional after-school childcare as well as a number of experiential learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, with annual educational field trips for all students in kindergarten and up. The school’s art and music programs include public displays and performances and our staff teach environmentally-friendly practices and concern for the world.

Turnaround Teaching at Gilpin Montessori School

“I enjoy teaching in a Montessori Turnaround classroom because you can immediately see huge growth in your kids all the time. At Turnaround schools, kids usually come in with a lot of needs but that also means really, really simple things can have a big difference. In a traditional third grade classroom, you roll out third grade curriculum, regardless of what skills the children have. In my Montessori classroom, I am able to focus on individual children and their specific needs. When students come in without number sense or letter sounds, I am able to differentiate my lessons and meet them where they are. Similarly, if I have a first grader ready for multiplication, I just move them on. I really enjoy that aspect of it.”  -Erin Bleichfeld, Montessori teacher
